Baking mats made of food-grade silicone are flexible, nonstick, and reusable. They are fashioned out of fiberglass and food-grade silicone, a non-toxic polymer that is mostly generated from silica (sand). The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that silicone does not react with other materials and does not emit harmful substances when heated; as a result, silicone is non-toxic and suitable for use with food.
